Methods And Benefits Of Water Filtration
Water is one of the most essential components of good health for every living thing especially humans. The human body is comprised of 70% water. Recently bottled water has come into popular use. Convenience is a part of the reason, but many claim this type of water tastes better than tap water.
The effectiveness of bottled water has recently come under some criticism. Some claim that is not near as pure as many of the claims say they are. There is no regulation of water from the bottle which is the cause for much of the criticism it gets.
Water filtration or purification is becoming increasing popular. There are three well-known methods of filtering water that can be used. They are Reverse Osmosis, Distillation, and Filtration.
Reverse osmosis was originally used to remove salt from sea water. In reverse osmosis, water with a lesser concentration of pollutants passes through a semi-permeable membrane to water with a greater concentration until both parts of water are equalized.
Distillation is a process that exposes the water to very high heat, vaporizing it. The water molecules are separated from pollutant molecules. This is done at a greater boiling point than the boiling point of water.
Filtration passes water through a filter. Contaminant molecules are trapped while pure water molecules are released. This process is called adsorption. The bond between contaminant molecules and water molecules is broken allowing the contaminant molecules to stick to the filter.
Water filtration provides the confidence that water is pure and clean. Thousands of known contaminants are removed including some known poisons. Since bottled water is not necessarily as pure as claims made and the industry isn't regulated, so many question whether it is in fact better than tap water.
Municipalities cannot control outbreaks of dangerous bacteria. Filtration of water can remove much if not all bacteria before it reaches consumers. Consumers' would do well to research any water filtration system before making a purchase.
