Weight Loss Diet - Tips To Help Make The Right Food Choices

So many food choices!

With all those options looming, no wonder making the right decision for weight control can be tough. These strategies can help.

Create the right environment. Don't allow temptation to get in your way, literally. Place healthy food choices at eye level in the fridge, you're more likely to grab what you see immediately. If you tend to snack in the kitchen while reading your mail, look at it in another part of the house.

Include some discretionary calories. Keep about 150 calories "in the bank" to spend on a small glass of wine or a dish of low-cal ice cream. That way, you can select a treat every day. Just don't look at it as a reward for eating healthy, instead, reward yourself with non-food items, such as a new book or DVD.

Accept some compromise. You won't make the right choice every single time, so don't berate yourself. One slip doesn't mean you've blown it. Instead, just admit it " I made bad decisions and over ate at dinner. Okay fine, I'll get back on track tomorrow".

Prepare a "plan B." Having a backup plan for when things don't go as planned can help you avoid these slips to start with. For instance, if you plan to pack your lunch but don't get up in time, decide to run out at noon for a healthy sandwich with a side of soup, not a burger and fries.

Look in the crystal ball. You know your weaknesses, so avoid situations that encourage you to make the wrong choices. If you tend to eat too many appetizers at a party, hang out in the TV room or on the patio, away from the buffet table. If you usually eat too many desserts, have a cappuccino instead.

Chewing your food thoroughly and pausing between each bite helps you eat less. When you slow down and chew each mouthful 15 to 20 times you will eat probably 100 calories less. And you'll feel fuller at the end of the meal and an hour later. You will enjoy the meal more, meaning you'll get more pleasure from fewer calories.
